Portable Battery-powered BDA
Introduction to SIPS-BDA Portable BDA / DAS
Debuting to market in 2009 (see APCO Public Safety Communications, September 2009), SIPS-BDA (Bi-Directional Amplifier) is a fully portable, tactical BDA solution to building and tunnel wireless coverage enhancement. It is a portable DAS that can be used instead of or in conjunction with an installed DAS. As a standalone system, SIPS-BDA is the most simple, affordable, and foolproof solution to SMR dead zones. In a backup or augmentation role, SIPS-BDA interoperates easily with fixed repeaters, VRS, and installed signal booster equipment of all types. Full coverage on all channels for trunked analog or digital systems is achieved. SIPS-BDA’s fully portable design is compatible with NFPA and SCIP guidelines and eligible for communications equipment grant offsets. Training includes certificate courses for Basic Operators and Train the Trainer curricula.
Frequencies available include 400MHz UHF, 700MHz, 800MHz, and 900MHz. Please contact us with your additional frequency requirements or fill out a quote request here.
SIPS-BDA is the leader in portable BDA systems for over 10 years and is covered by many U.S. patents. Used at major events and venues including State of the Union at the U.S. Capitol, PGA U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club, and Republican National Convention at Tampa FL.
Be wary of companies offering copy cat products that infringe SIPS-BDA, the patented industry leader.

Portable BDA / DAS Background Information
“The life safety of firefighters and citizens depends on reliable, functional communication tools that work in the harshest and most hostile of environments” as described in “Voice Radio Communications Guide for the Fire Service“, a publication of the U.S. Fire Administration and FEMA.
“System manufacturers and designers will never guarantee, and it is impractical to expect, 100 percent coverage. It is impossible to guarantee 100 percent coverage in any city. There is always some corner of a building that a radio system does not cover. The problem with no coverage from a trunked system is very different from a simplex area. In a trunked system, no coverage means no communications.”
The Guide goes on to describe various coverage enhancement devices. Perhaps the most versatile coverage enhancement device is the Tactical BDA System.
SIPS-BDA meets or exceeds all of the requirements for the tactical BDA system. Wherever an infrastructure BDA is not installed, or the infrastructure system has been compromised by fire, explosion, or other emergency event, SIPS-BDA is an effective tool for achieving in-building coverage.
Portable BDA / DAS Accessories
SIPS-FAK
SIPS-FAK (Flexible Antenna Kit) adds antennas and transport medium to the portable DAS. When site and coverage logistics are challenging, SIPS-FAK with its additional cabling and antennas, used in conjunction with the SIPS-BDA tactical BDA system, flexibly extends the coverage enhancement zone. SIPS-FAK comes with everything needed to deploy up to three indoor antennas in a variety of patterns extending coverage zones in both horizontal and vertical directions. Especially helpful in very large structures such as high-rise buildings, complex factory, and shipboard environments, SIPS-FAK allows great flexibility adapting to complex RF environments.
SIPS-ACR
SIPS-ACR (Auxiliary Cable Reel) provides additional RF cable on a rugged, roll-around cable reel. SIPS-ACR includes five (5) x 100 ft cable segments joined by N-couplers allowing cabling to be extended as required. Large pneumatic tires enable easy rolling over rugged terrain and stairs. The reel incorporates tensioning and braking allowing a single operator to deploy cable in a controlled, snag-free manner. The large crank handle makes rewinding easy. Both the crank handle and tow handle stow compactly for easy transport.
Hand carry reels of 100 ft cable segments are also available!
SIPS-CPSK
SIPS-CPSK (Cordless Power Supply Kit) combines the modules needed for a rechargeable, portable power supply system including batteries, battery charger, and DC-AC power inverter. The lightweight, 6.5 lbs. kit, housed in a watertight briefcase, is ready to power a wide variety of electronic and illumination gear. Each of two (2) EM-100 lithium-ion battery packs, the same packs used in the SIPS-BDA, provides enough energy to power a WiFi hotspot router for 10 or more hours. The CHG-50 battery charger will fully recharge any EM-100 pack in approximately two (2) hours.
